The most popular and commercially available GPS devices have the ability to store data related to a vehicle’s movement. While the amount of data storage varies from model to model, the information stored in a typical GPS will record a vehicle’s position, time/date and speeds for days and even weeks. With the appropriate hardware and software, this data can be retrieved. This data can then be evaluated and analyzed in conjunction with other evidence in an accident reconstruction.
